I think I saw this issue in a thread already but, for the life of me, now I can't find it again so my apologies if I am duplicating something. And this isn't the owner's manual. And I have only just bought my C28 so I am on a step learning curve.

But enough with the apologies ...

The hydraulic ram that lifts the engine hatch on my C28 is a bit sluggish and unresponsive which makes me think, at the very least, I should check the oil reservoir. Problem is, I can't find it. I think I may have to dismantle the swing seat but before I do that, I thought I should ask for directions.

And is this the same reservoir used by the trim tabs??

(I assume the oil for the steering can handled adequately via the access hole at the wheel?)

Thanks all.

Yes, the engine hatch lift and trim tabs share the same reservoir. Unfortunately there isn't enough oil for both to be deployed at the same time. If you haven't already, make sure the trim tabs are fully raised, then try the engine hatch. The hatch will only fully open if the tabs are up.

Thanks Kip. I think I remember seeing this advice on the hatch and tabs competing for the same fluid somewhere in one of the posts, but I thought -- just as matter of good housekeeping -- I should know where to look so that I can check fluid levels and replenish if needed.

If it helps, on the C30, its next to the rudder, under the transom seat.

Also, yes, adding oil to the hydraulic steering is done on the helm steering.

The reservoir is on the starboard side, pretty much under the access to the swim platform. You have to take the rear seat out to access it.

Thanks jswhal. Went looking for it yesterday and couldn't get enough visibility or access via the hatches in the well. Looks like an interesting day with the tools coming up.
