Howdy folks - there's a bunch of opinions out there that say hypalon dinghies are the way to go over PVC, with the primary callout appearing to be UV resistance over PVC.

What's the real world lived experience for you folks based up here in the NorthWest?

If you're boating year round, keeping the dinghy up out of the water (covered) and then only using the dinghy for specific trips throughout the year, seems like the UV issue wouldn't be such a big deal...particularly given the price point between hypalon and PVC.

Welcome views on this, particularly if you've learned lessons first hand or have had both up here.

THANKS

In 9/10 use cases I believe a well put-together heat welded PVC inflatable is equal or superior to a hypalon dinghy held together by glue, particularly for repairability in the event of a seam failure. The 1/10 is for inflatables that are left out in the sun for months at a time, which is where hypalon is a must. If you are going to cover your dinghy and apply a UV protectant like 303 from time to time I would expect it to fail from anything other than UV degradation first.
