Re R31; Our boat has an ice maker rather than a frig on the back deck, and also has a solar panel.

Does the ice maker run on the batteries alone when the generator is not running?

If the generator is not required, will the solar panel usually supply enough power to maintain the ice maker?

If the generator must be running for the ice maker to perform, how long must the generator run during day to make the ice maker perform as intended?

And, how long will ice last in the ice maker if the generator s not run?

Hi thagoort.

The ice maker is 120 volts AC only and will not run off the batteries or solar panel. So you are correct in thinking it needs either a shorepower hookup or the genset running to supply power to it. It produces copious amounts of ice but will require power until you have decided you have enough ice. In our experience, ice will last several hours in the box without power. Duration depends on how hot is is outside . Hope this helps

The ice maker is pretty efficient. You can also make ice while you're cruising, using the inverter. If we're going to be without 120 at a moorage, we can move bagged ice into our 12V freezer or the freezer compartment in the galley fridge.

Cheers,

Bruce
