Hey Tugnuts! The Laurie Ann is experimenting with window tinting and wondering what your experiences are in this area. We bought the darkest "limo tint" at an auto parts store and applied it to the window in the head. We did this because we have been keeping the curtain closed and using velcro closures to hold the bottom of the curtain against the outside wall. We did this because when the curtain hangs vertically on the slightly sloping wall, it cuts down on the space and head feels smaller than what it is. Our boating buddy in their Rosborough used a window film that frosted their head window but we wanted the outside of the window to not look frosted so were are experimenting with the dark tint.

With the window tint the head space opened up immensely. We immediately found that during the daylight, you cannot see past the window tint at all. But at night, when the head is illuminated with every possible light, you can see past the window tint to some degre. We may keep the curtain open and folded against the medicine cabinet and only use it at night. We also immediately experienced that the head space is cooler.

We have seen boats in the southeast have extensive window tinting on the sides (never on the front shield or the windows adjacent to the pilot or navigator). Window tint comes in four shades and is described by percentage of light coming through the tint (2.5 is the darkest, 5, 20 and 35 is the lightest). The application is easy and straight forward.

Have you added window tinting to any of your boat's glazing?
