We have a Ranger 25 and have a question regarding the ignition alarm system.
When you start the main engine should an alarm (buzzer) sound?
Ours does not and on previous vessels we have owned a safety alarm sounds til the engine starts and comes up to pressure.
Any thoughts?

We have a 2009 R25 Classic. Sometimes when the engine is started the alarm comes on immediately and does not turn off even after oil pressure comes up. When this happens the only cure seems to be restarting the engine. At other times the alarm does not come on at all. Have not yet had the alarm come on and then turn off by itself when the oil pressure comes up. It's odd, annoying and perplexing.

a 12v mechanic should be able to check the Oil Pressure sending unit and alarms on the engine block and clean and apply dielectric to the connections at engine end and engine control panel.. if that does not cure the problem I'd replace either the alarm unit or the OP sending unit or both. these are too critical a system to have a possibility of failure on the water, with potential expensive damage to your engine.

i don't know what kind of engine you have . the wiring diagrams for that particular engine, showing the electrical connections for the OP sending unit and OP under pressure alarm sensor will be found in the engine service manual. it should not take a competent 12v ABYC certified mechanic more than an hour to do the initial check and cleanup of these 2 wire systems.

most OP sensor systems are designed to sound when one starts the engine , then go off as the oil pressure hits the normal 40 psi or so. let us know what you find....
