Hello folks,

My wife and I are looking at several CB 31s for sale. We are very motivated by the cost savings of purchasing used. One drawback we notice is that the older CB 31s have a very different seating layout on the bridge than the newer ones. Has anyone done some "converting" of space on a CB 31 to improve the seating up top? Also, what about seating in the outside aft deck? I assume you would not have the kick out seats open while underway...

Looking forward to hearing from ya'll.

Thanks!

Bobby

Hi Bobby, we have a 2014 R31cb, we have not done anything to expand seat on the bridge as there just isn’t the space. We do have a yeti cooler with a coushin on top that adds seating. On the rear deck we used folding deck chairs while under way and then flip out gull wing seats when anchored or docked. We’ve had 8 people on the deck with the gull wings very comfortable. This is the chairs we have https://www.westmarine.com/buy/west-mar ... ecordNum=6

Bobby,
We bought a 2013 R31 CB last fall, and you are correct. The seat on the bridge leaves much to be desired- it feels flimsy and not very ergonomic. We haven't found a suitable replacement yet. And there's not a whole lot of room up there to expand. We'll probably go with deck chairs for the cockpit. I too was motivated by the cost savings of buying used. If you're in Baltimore, I'm just down the road in Edgewater (Annapolis area). PM me if you're interested in taking a trip down and see what I found. I searched the whole east coast, and the first one I went to look at (Pensacola), I had surveyed and bought it.

Thanks, Brad

I figured out how to improve the seating on the bridge of the 31CB. I'm buying a 2017; it has the hardtop. I guess that started in 2016.

Brad, funny thing... We are buying form Edgewater (Modern Tugs) in Pensacola. How did you bring the boat back?

We are waiting for survey...

I negotiated the delivery cost up front with them. They have drivers- the one that delivered mine worked almost exclusively for Ranger/Cutwater and really knew what he was doing. He parked it right in my driveway, and I have a Ford F250 diesel I used to launch it. And I do like the layout of the bridge on the newer R31 CBs- good choice!

For anyone looking for a more comfortable bridge seat on the older R31 CB, check this one out. It fits well and the cover fits over it when the seat is down and the back rest is pulled forward. It doesn't do much to expand the seating, but it sure is a lot more comfortable and sturdy. Plus, you can sit facing aft at anchor or docked.
