Hello All,

My wife and I are contemplating a cruise up and down the Connecticut River From Wethersfield Cove down to Saybrook and back in our R21ec.

First off, does Wethersfield have a good ramp, and is there a place to leave a car and trailer nearby?

I would also be interested in good stopping points and availability of slips or moorings. Are transient slips or moorings available more or less on demand or do you have to reserve far in advance? One big question we have is shore access. We have a rather basic rubber boat we could tow, but it would look like the tail wagging the dog.

Does river current ever become an issue?

Basically any thoughts and experiences in that part of the world would be of interest.

Thanks

Larry

There is a good ramp under I-95 in Old Saybrook and you can leave your rig there. So I would start there and then double back. It has been quite some time since I cruised that area. Essex Marina is a short distance from the ramp and a nice spot to stop. The Griswold Inn in the center of town has a nice restaurant. And if your wife like shopping she will like the area as well. Go on Active Captain and you will find other marinas and Anchorages up the river.

Everyone I know who has been to Hamburg Cove really likes it. Have not made it there myself yet, but its in my future. GF

Yes, I have been there also and forgot about that one. Nice anchorage. I also seem to remember a dock near Goodspeed playhouse. nice little town also
