Insert photos

How do you insert a photo into a post?

There are two ways to embed images in your posts.

If the picture you want to include is in one of your gallery folders (on Tugnuts), click on the g2Img button. That will open another window which will allow you to browse your galleries and select a picture.

If the picture isn't in your gallery, perhaps something you've seen elsewhere on the web, or in another personal web collection (i.e. flickr, picassa, etc.) then you click the Img button.

This will create the following string in your posting window - then you copy and paste the URL (http://whatever...jpg) of the desired image in the middle, between the ][ brackets. The trick here is to determine the direct URL of the image. Various image hosting sites show it in different ways. Sometimes it's right up in the address bar. Other times it's listed under "Share This Image", etc.

You can determine if you have the correct URL by hitting the Preview button. If it displays, you're good to go. If it's not correct, the form will give you some kind of clue so you can go back and dig around. You'll only have to figure it out once for each host.

...snip...

It should be noted that using the g2Img technique may be very slow in displaying the user's Tugnut photo Album gallery.... (at least it is for me most times and could be related to my fairly large set of Albums I have) and great patience will be required waiting for things to display so photo(s) can be selected to be embedded in the posting.

Just saying....

Or, just pull the photo up in your album, right click or control click (depending on your computer) on the photo to pull up the "image address", copy that, and paste it between the IMG brackets (click Img above once, paste in the image address, click Img again). No slow down to do it that way.

OK will try that....

Hmmmmm..... I get this "It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image.".

Will try again....

This works after posting but in Preview before posting it does not display the photo.

No matter, thanks for the tip/advice and it is much much faster in dealing with obtaining the desired photo to display in the posting. 🙂

I store all my photos in a Onedrive folder. Grab the custom url from the embed photo link option in Onedrive and past that as a IMG tag in the post here on Tugnuts.

From your album, baz...

Took about 20 seconds. Most of that was to find the image. I'm guessing you did an "image address" on the preview, not the actual full size photo.

I will amend the second click for the "Img" - this forum gives you those (before and after) so all you have to do is paste the image location between them.

I got the same error message when I inserted a dropbox link with Img. But it worked with URL. I thought both methods should work with an external link, but if so, then why the error? When should URL be used vs Img? Thanks

Bruce, would this thread be a good segue to discussing the progress on revamping the Tugnuts forum software design?

Still a work in progress. No updates to report. The shut down made this a low priority with constrained resources for everyone involved.

Cheers,
