Subject: Installing an independent loud hailer

On my R-21EC i installed a loud hailer and connected it to the stock VHF radio Ranger Tugs equipped the boat with. It was an easy installation and works well. I do have to select the hailer function on the radio each time I needed to use it. I found it useful for communicating with dock hands and other small radio-less boats nearby when out on the water.

This is the PA Horn I installed on my R-21EC -- https://www.starmarinedepot.com/standard-horizon-220sw-round-pa-horn.html

It's possible to install an independent hailer that requires no connection to the boat's stock VHF radio such as .....

Has any one installed one of these type independent loud hailers for use as a PA and/or for internal boat communication purposes ?

Was it a straight forward task ? What features should one look for in such a hailer ?

Thanks... 🙂

I have been contemplating this same install because I want the fog horn and PA to be available while the radio is still functioning as a radio. Let me know if you find any downside to going with such an install.
