Hi guys/gals: This may seem a silly question, but can anyone out there advise me about the 'GLOW' function on the instrument panel of my 2009 3YM30 Yanmar? I have never used this function, merely turning the key to the usual START/ON positions when starting the engine. The manual states that the 'GLOW' function is a start/aid, but I am assuming this is normally only used in extremely cold ambient conditions. Am I correct here? Noting that we here in Western Australia rarely get ambient temperatures below around 12 or 13 degrees Celsius, would i ever need to utilise the 'GLOW' function? I would appreciate any and all advice. Kind regards

Many modern Diesel engines don't require glow plug assistance for starting the engine these days. On my 2016 R-21EC Volvo engine there are glow plug connectors but I think they are non functional.... but quite honestly dunno for sure. I always press the start button (key not required) and the engine springs into life immediately. 🙂

Even on my R-25 Yanmar 4BY2 150 diesel it had non functional glow plugs.

I live in PNW area just north of Seattle and temps really get low enough for the need of glow plugs. I did have a Volvo auto diesel a few years ago and it did have glow plugs.... but that was a Volvo dated 1986.
