Electronics - Standard Stuff (Story by Peter Swanson)
On page 53 there's mention of remote control and the mention of introducing an Apple iPhone App that will be FREE. Hopefully this would also include an enhanced version for the iPhone's (or iPod Touch's) bigger brother -- the iPad.
If this comes about I can see other useful remote options beyond what is mentioned. For example
1. Monitoring boat's cabin temperature during winter time
2. Battery charge levels - alert if below some threshold
3. Forced intrusion (security) -- maybe sounding the horns if boat forcibly entered
4. Bilge water level alerts
5. Failure related to the refrigerator
6. Locating the boat if out on the high seas without your authority
7. Boat's GPS location, speed and direction
8. Sending Email to the helm's display screen
9. Obtaining fuel level
10. Obtaining fresh water tank's level
11. Knowing if boat connected to a shore power supply
12. Activating an onboard camera to have images sent to iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad via Email
13. Activating cabin lights prior to getting to the boat
14. other possibilities are simply in one's imagination. :!:
The Maretron company will be represented at the Anacortes Trawler Fest May 20-22 (see link below). I will be sure to make this and learn more about this 'remote control' feature.
