This post falls under the heading of improvements for our R27. It may just be a personal choice, but I thought the two storage openings at the ceiling, above the pilothouse seating would look better and be more functional if they had doors. With that in mind I ordered two pieces of teak laminated wood from Richard in the Parts Dept. at Ranger Tugs and began my project.
After cutting out the doors, rounding the corners and sanding the edges I applied two coats of "Cowboy Boots" colored Valspar paint to the edges. This is the same paint the factory uses on the edges of some of our other boat doors and makes the final product look like it is factory installed. With the doors finally in place, I think the area looks more finished and it keeps stuff from falling out when we trailer the boat or are in rougher water.
If anyone is in Traverse City, Michigan this summer, I have lots of left over paint to share.
