My hour meter had been displaying intermittently, sometimes flashing. Hours were being counted and recorded in the memory, but not always shown. Intermittent electrical problems are the worst!
Some very clever person had the same problem and determined that it was caused by a sealing material that degrades over time and shorts out the leads to a sensor. He developed a repair and created this Youtube video;

I followed the procedure and my hour meter has been functioning perfectly for the past two weeks and over 35 engine hours. Many thanks to the smart guy who figured this out.
