Do others think this to be a worthy upgrade for the wipers ?

When I'm underway with water/mist/fog condensation/light drizzle etc getting onto the glass I find I have to concentrate on flipping one or more of the wiper blade switches to clear the water/moisture. If my visual attention warrants it I will activate the appropriate wiper switch by feel, counting the switch location from left to right. Sure would be nice to have the intermittent wiper action feature for these times!

Has anyone upgraded their wiper system to have the intermittent feature ?

I hadn't thought of that, but I did put a couple of applications of Rainex on the windshields which make the need to turn on the wipers much less frequent. Also, I used my label maker to put a 1, 2, 3, 4 above the corresponding switches. Just makes finding the one(s) I want a little easier.

I would also like to have the option to activate all 4 wipers simultaneously... it's a PITA to have to flip the 4 switches one at a time to clear water from each windshield.

I had the dealer deactivate both stock wiper switches a replace with a single twist style "truckers" intermittent rotary switch working both wipers. The further you twist the less time on standby until you get to the full time low and high speed "clicks". Almost the best feature on the boat now - I cannot remember the last time the wipers were on steady... I mounted the new switch just below the main row of rocker switches. It looks fine and works even better! This should be a factory standard item on boats this well outfitted otherwise.

Hello Pleeson,

That sounds great!

what you had installed?

I have purchased but not yet installed a momentary push button switch to add a "mist" feature to our driver side wiper... when closed it will make the connection between the low speed (could also be the high speed) posts of our current wiper switch.

Brilliant idea! We were steaming through some short sets of choppy seas yesterday and I was constantly flicking on the wiper blades for a pass or two. I'll have to look into installing one of these switches.

Not being electrically inclined, I wonder if you can keep the toggle switches and have one master delay switch such that you can turn on the wipers that you want operating, but also tune the intermittent speed with which the "on" wipers go. In other words, the wiper switches you want running would be on, and they'd all run at the same speed based on the setting of the intermittent rotary switch. Is that possible?

Thanks for these responses... can someone provide a reference to where these switches can be obtained.... Thanks. 🙂

I am sure that a handy person or electrically savvy helper could wire your intermittent rheostat in series with your switches so you could select which wipers to activate and time or otherwise. Just go to any good auto parts store armed with the draw for each of your wiper motors so that you get a beefy enough rheostat to handle the combined draw of all motors. Again - worth every penny as an upgrade. It was such a pain with a quartering sea and wind, or in anything but a downpour before adding the intermittent.
