On my Ranger 31, the inverter/charger is wired so that the inverter only runs the microwave and the wall bulkhead outlets.

I assume the charger must be switched on when charging the batteries on shore power. Must it also be turned on when the batteries are being refreshed by running the generator?

The refrigerator and wine cooler run on battery power. If the charger is used to charge the batteries on shore power, should it not also be used when the generator is being run to support the refrigerator and wine cooler?

On the R27 we owned the charger did charge the batteries when the genset was running as well as from the alternator when the engine was running. I would think your R31 would be the same.

Hello,

The Ranger 31 on the newer models specifically have the inverter set to only power that block of breakers. When connected to shore power, the charger should come on automatically. This operation does vary whether or not you have a Pro Mariner unit or Kisae unit. Let us know and we can specify operation.

Best regards,

You did not reply to my question whether the charger must be switched on in order to charge the batteries via the generator.

I will check whether I have the Pro Mariner or the Kisae charger. Which one causes the charger to come on "automatically" ?
I assume the other one requires moving the charger switch in order to charge the batteries on shore power.

Andrew:

The charger on my 31 is a Pro Mariner. Is that the charger that automatically comes on when the boat is on shore power?

Does the Pro Mariner charger also come on automatically when the generator is running or do you need to turn it on in order to charge the batteries via generator?

Hello,

The Onan generator has an alternator on it. You do not need to have shore power activated for it to charge batteries. If you want to use your line 1 and onboard charger, you need to have the shore power charger/inverter activated.
