Just read about and acquired this app which turns your iPhone and/or iPad into a bearing compass. It uses the front facing camera and overlays compass headings with draggable red and green bearing lines. You can zoom up to 8x, essentially turning your device into compass binocs. Even takes pictures with overlaid marks.
