For those of you scrambling to find something interesting to read during our current rainy weather [or notice a copy laying around in the dentist's waiting room] the January edition of Pacific yachting has a couple of interesting items.
Apart from a test of the 41 RT that I believe has previously been published elsewhere there is a technical article comparing radar with AIS. It points out that most of the transponder units installed on vessels our size our class B units transmitting at only 2W every 30 seconds when underway and every six minutes when moving under 2 kn or at anchor. I'm sure most of us have noticed the position discrepancy between radar and AIS position.
Most of the apps discussed in "Tech talk" are product specific and I'm sure we are all aware of Garmin active Capt. but I didn't know about the Fusion Link app. I downloaded it and I'm sure it will be useful at some point.
