Howard and John took Karma for her water test this past Thursday! All went well as expected. Karma will have her official launching on Friday the 13th, appropriate for hull number 13, at 1300 hours at the 14 street launch in Everett (Why could it not be one block south????)

John and Laurie as well as Barry and Gil have said they were going to attend. We thought it would be appropriate to have 13 Tugnutters in attendance for the festivities! We plan to motor for 13 minutes at 1300 RPM to set the "Karma" straight on our new "Karma".

Any other tugnutters that would like to attend, please feel free to do so. I trust the weather will feature a record high with clear blue skies and soft gentle breezes (this is the norm for Seattle in November right....). No matter what the weather, it is a new beginning in Maureen and I lives. We will be mooring Karma in Port Orchard making the Seattle area our official second home.

Unfortunately, Maureen will not be in attendance as she will be working (someone has to work to pay for Karma). She will fly in at 9:45 Friday evening and we will spend our first weekend in the Everett area. Jeff and the Ranger Tug crew will pull her on Monday for any last minute adjustments. I will return to the PNW on the 21st of November and along with Bruce and Vicki take Karma over to Port Orchard. (Again Maureen will not be able to attend..... still working to pay for Karma) Maureen will fly up on Wednesday morning. We will be joined by our Daughter Meghan and her boyfriend on Wednesday night and spend Thanksgiving weekend aboard. Weather provided, we will tour some of the Puget Sound area on Friday and Saturday. We would love to hook up with anyone that is available. Currently the thought is to go over to Bell Harbor on Friday as our Daughter has never been to Seattle (around the world but not to the left corner of the USA). We will head back over to Bremerton Friday afternoon and then it is off to Poulsbo on Saturday. Sunday Maureen flies home (that work thing again) and I will spend the following week on Karma installing all of the neat little gadgets we have already purchased. We will be on the water again that next weekend.

We look forward to spending many weekends with the great people of the PNW enjoying the water.

What hull color is that? Does the color have a name? Thanks. Looks wild. 😉 A banana boat maybe. 😉 Looking forward to seeing it in the water.

She is a beauty!!!

Can the Red Ranger be your dingy, pretty please! 🙂🙂

Dave & Maureen,
What can I say?      😉

It is getting close to taking delivery of Karma. I will be in Monroe today working with Dave at King Marine Canvas on the bimini design.

The color is "Mako Yellow" which is the yellow that Mako Boats uses. It is actually a very pale buttery yellow. It does appear much brighter in pictures (had me worried until I saw the live product, wasn't sure how I would tell Jeff I did not want it.....).

John, if Red Ranger were the "Yellow Ranger", we could talk. The red would clash with the yellow too much....... thanks for the offer though. You do realize that Jeff has lowered the price on Solitude don't you? Might want to give him a call...

David:

I just talked with Andrew about your launching Karma this Friday. He indicated that you maybe launching earlier than 1pm and that it will be launched 1.5 miles north of the Everett Naval base -- near to Performance Marine (Boat on a pole sign).

I'd like to not miss the launch so if you have further details that would be good to know.... Barry 🙂

It appears that Solitude must have sold as that is what it states on YachtWorld. Is there a new TugNut?

As of yesterday, Solitude was still available.... I am looking into whether or not I can change the "user" name on the account. If not, we will continue to use the user name of "Solitude".

Barry,
The official launch will be at 1300 hours. Andrew and I will have it in the water a bit sooner so he can school me on the new systems. By 1300 hours, we will ready for the festivities to begin! I stopped by Monroe today and Karma looked good! Her bottom had a fresh coat of bottom paint and her eyebrows were all plucked and ready to go! Howard said they were having an issue with the AC in the main cabin but had worked it out. Not that we will need air at this time of year here in Seattle......

Maureen and I will be spending the weekend in the Everett area and would loved to be joined by any who dare to bring their vessels out. We do have a late afternoon flight back to Vegas on Sunday.

I must compliment Howard and his crew at the Monroe plant for building a first class vessel! But then again so does the Kent plant. All of the folks at Ranger Tugs are first rate right down the line from Dave and John to all of the folks that work in the plants. They take pride in what they do and it shows!

Thank you Howard, Jeff, Andrew, and all of the folks that built Solitude and Karma! You are the best of the best!

Is what I posted above accurate ? If Karma will already be in the water will it be 1.5 miles north of Naval base. I guess I can always call Andrew on his cell and he can say exactly where your boat is.

CONGRATULATIONS from the OPTIMIST (#2 2010 R-29). Stop and say hello to us in Port Ludlow on your way south.

Friday's forecast for Everett is a 90% chance of rain with south winds 15-25 knots. Bring your raincoat! The crew of the Laurie Ann is planning on launching at Everett (our usual launching place) and if the weather forecast comes true, we will likely spend the weekend at our cabin at Hat Island which is 5 miles west of Everett. If the winds are less, we are up for a cruise in the area as Karma stretches her legs.

Peggy and I were in Everett last month to attend my nephew's wedding. Really enjoyed the area. Toured the Ranger facility, the Northern Loop of Cascades, the high desert area, the Gorge, Mt Ranier, Mt St Helens, the San Juan Islands and Vancouver Island, BC. Whew 😀

I try not to envy folks, but everytime I visit that area it's hard to not be envious.

Gene,
Don't feel bad about not living in the PNW! You live near a beautiful lake! Lake Lanier. When we lived in Florida, we kept our sail boat on Lanier at Holiday Marina.

We used to love spending time on "your" lake!

Thanks for sharing your first day aboard. She's a beauty.

David:

That Mako Yellow R29 is awesome. Thanks for the maiden voyage (well almost). It was fun and a great opportunity to see the R29 up close. I did take a few candid photos and a short 43 sec movie (unedited) which you can view at

Note that the 43 second movie is some 73 MB in size so unless you have high-speed internet connection it will download slowly. I apologize for the jittering in the movie as my left shoulder's rotator cuff was badly damaged two weeks ago having fell down hard on my left side. My left arm/shoulder is very weak and will be requiring surgery in late Dec. 🙁

Well, as you are all aware, we took possession of Karma yesterday morning. Andrew and I launched prior to everyone arriving so he could go through the systems with me on a one on one basis. It is quite a vessel I must say. The handling of this vessel is so much more responsive than that of the R-25 due to the increased rudder size.

Barry, Gil, John, Laurie, and Bruce all showed up for the true initial cruise out into the sound. Thank you to each of you for joining me on the initial cruise. We would have loved to have had Maureen along with us however she needed to work (again, someone has to pay for Karma!).

It was quite a day! Bruce Moore emailed me the updated weather forecasts all week. The weather looked bleak, rain, high winds, big wind chop waves, everything that could make the initial test cruise interesting. When I woke on Friday morning it appeared the weather man had it right. It was raining, the wind was blowing, it looked as if it were going to be an ugly day. I left for the factory at 5:30 am to unload all of my gear. Howard had Karma inside so it was a "dry" adventure. Andrew arrived at 8:00 am and we went through the engine compartment. At nine we headed for the marina. The rain continued to fall, the wind continued to blow..... However, by the time we reached the marina, the sun had come out, the wind had abated, and yes, the rain had ceased! The sun god was shining on Karma!

We cruised about for a couple of hours in the beauty of the PNW. The fresh snow that had fallen on the Cascades was visible and amazing! Around 1500 hours we dropped Laurie, Bruce, Barry and Gil at the launch ramp. John, Andrew and I proceeded to the guest docks. We tied Karma securely to the dock and then had Laurie and John take Andrew and I back to our trucks.

I arrived back at Karma 20 minutes later and the rain once again began to fall! I left for Seatac at 20:00 hours to pick Maureen up. On the way back it began to snow! What a day!

Karma is a great vessel and we can't imagine anything better! Thanks again to the crew at Ranger Tugs for providing all of us with such great vessels!

Look for pictures to be posted shortly!

Well, Karma is finally in her new home. I brought her down from Everett this morning just ahead of the weather. It was nice when I left, light rain no wind. Just five miles out of Everett the Coast Guard put out a security message concerning the weather front moving in. Winds at 20 to 30, wind waves of 3 to 5. Oh great! I quickly considered putting back into Everett and riding it out. Then, I remembered I had speed on my side. So much for the ten knots to Port Orchard. I quickly check the chart for ports of refuge that I could put into in the event that the weather got bad. I pushed it up to 15 knots and beat the weather. Karma was secure and getting a bath when the winds arrived. They were right, 20 to 30! One bright note though is the sun came out!

I cannot say enough about how pleased we are with Karma. Howard and his crew at the Monroe plant build a quality boat. Dave designed a quality boat. Jeff is a great sales person that offers no pressure, and Andrew, what can you say. I got to Karma yesterday and the head would not work...... Oh god what do you do?!? I called Andrew at 5:30 pm on a Saturday night! He knew exactly how to fix it! The breaker was off!

Once again, thank you to the crew at Ranger Tugs! I do not feel that we can say that enough!

Where is Karma's home port ? Is it Port Orchard -- opposite Bremerton ?
