Hi, I dropped the Diesel fuel cap into the water - and Ranger nicely replaced it when I ordered two to have a spare.

Now that I have a spare, I am looking for a way to attach the cap to the rail.

I tried to drill thru the cap - but it is made of a material harder than any drill I own.

Has anyone found a neat way to attach the fuel cap?

The supplied chain is kind of useless because I must screw in an adapter to fill the tank at any local marina.

Thanks for your ideas . . . /Stu

The cap is most likely a cast with stainless. To drill stainless you need a cobalt bit. I would drill the hold and then use a neoprene washer on top to seal the hole so not even a small amount of water will get in. I would use a stainless machine threaded eye with nut an washer on bottom and on top a neoprene washer below a metal washer and nut. I would then use two pieces of stainless cable with a swivel between them (maybe a good fishing swivel will work) so the cable won't start knotting up on you from turning the cap on and off.

Thanks - I'll try a cobalt drill - the swivel is a good idea, it would look better than some nylon line I was planning.
