We have recently purchased a R-31S Tug. My question is when plugged in to shore power do you have to have your inverted on to keep the 12 volt battery’s charged or does the Boat have its own separate battery charger. Thank you for your help in advance.

Older R31s have a different inverter/charger and different control panel, but the basic idea is the same. If you have the older ProMariner system, be careful. If you lose AC power, the inverter picks up, and any loads you left on will drain the batteries dry (very, very poor design and implementation).

The newer R31 with the abso charger inverter also will turn on if you lose or disconnect shore power. But good thing is you can change the setting to not turn on when there is a lose of power. This can be done changing a setting using the control panel. We did this so if we lose power in the winter with heaters running it won’t kill our house bank.

Thank you all for the information, I really appreciate it.
