Keeping water out of the engine compartment tip

Probably like most of the other R25 owners out there (probably other models as well) my engine mounts are deteriorating mostly on the starboard side due to cleaning the sea filter regularly. Of course when you close the raw inlet valve and open the sea strainer, raw water pours all over your engine mount(s). I have found that after you close the raw water valve, if you turn on the raw water pump hose and spray out some water it partially drains the cup- no overflow if you do this. Too bad I didn’t start doing this earlier. If there ever was a place to use SS it would be the motor mounts. I dread touching them at this point for fear of finding failed bolts, detached mounts and over all decay. On the replacement list I guess. I would love to find some SS replacements if anyone has dealt with this issue.

Several people here have recommended Corrosion-X 90102 Anti-Corrosion and Lubricant, 16-Ounce, Aerosol for applying to the engine mounts. It's best done when the boat is new though.

If you do get salt water on the mounts why not wash it off with some fresh water to help reduce rusting ?

Once a year, I spray most on my engine with T9 Boeshield. Dries clear and manages the rust.

My R29 has the same problem and more, I think the water rose to the propeller shaft and was slung around, next time i'm near a boar yard I'll get an estimate on detailing the engine compartment.

Not touching them for fear of finding failed bolts or detached mounts is not the way to go and likely not what's going on as there would be symptoms. Throw a pry bar to them and give a tug, likely you'll be impressed as to how solid they are.

I'm keeping an eye on mine but as burly as they are I think of this as surface oxidation, more a cosmetic condition.

I coat all metal engine components with CRC-3-36 Lubricant and corrosion inhibitor. It leaves a light film to protect metal components. It also aids in loosening metal fasteners and lubricates moving parts ( belt tensioner, packing gland, and motor mount adjustment ).
