Hello Everyone,
We just purchased a 2008 Ranger R25 and are very excited to set out on our new venture but have a question for everyone.
The Ranger has a 2 burner Kenyon Electric Kiss cook Top. One burner is electric and one is the canister / butane burner. In looking for replacement butane I have been reading about trouble with some models of these stoves.
Is this a dangerous stove to use and should we replace it?
Thanks for all the help.

I also have the same stove in my 2008 R25 and find the stove works well, never have had a concern with it. We also carry carry a Kuuma 125 propane bbq, plus a single burner portable butane stove on board for alternative cooking surfaces.

I has a Kenyon Kiss butane stove on our C-Dory. We had issues with butane leaking when installing a new canister. Kenyon fixed it for free. The said always remove canister after every use and to lube the tip of the canister with a drop of motor oil. Did all that and it failed again. I did find a use for it; I hid extra cash in it where the butane canister would go. I would buy a butane stove in a case like caterers use. Asian grocery stores usually have the stoves and butane canisters pretty cheap. We have a generator or when using shore power we have an induction cooker type hot plate. We bought Magna nestled cookware set for induction type hot plate. We use it a lot; no fuel to buy and it does not heat the cabin too much. Convenient to use. We use that more than the propane stove that came with the boat. But that's just us. Not a fan of Kiss butane stoves. We also have gotten good service out of a Dickinson Spitfire propane grill. Pictures of that in our photo album.

Hello,

The whole reason this stove is not used anymore is because Kenyon discontinued all butane versions for this exact reason that Dave mentions. I do not believe it is a huge safety concern but you certainly need to be aware of the situation that Dave describers perfectly.

Best regards,

Thank You all for your help, this is truly appreciated and it will help us become safe and aware sailors.
