Both of our key fobs are not working to activate the ignition light and thus we cannot start the engine. We’ve tried turning off all batteries, on and off of shore power, and nothing seems to work. The batteries all register at 12.5v and all the other devices seem to work. We last used the boat two weeks ago and used the key fob to deactivate the ignition. Any suggestions? !!

Do the fobs have integral batteries I wonder ?

I looked at my R29's Volvo key fob and see a wireless logo on its side. This tells me there's some form of electrical signal being emitted and that this signal has to be received elsewhere in the boat that then allows the engine to be started.

I do not see any small screw on the fob so there's no means to open up the fob. The only thing I can suggest is to contact Volvo Tech help and ask for their advice.

Good luck..... and BY THE WAY... how old is your boat ?

Turns out it was a short of some sort in the engine.

I had wondered the same thing at one point, although about RFID in general. They get the power from the magnets in them, so no need to ever change the battery.
