Greetings from Key West!

After 4 days of towing our R29, we arrived at Boca Chica Marina. We launched at the boat ramp; some said it could not be done due to limited water depth but we did it on a rising tide. Today, we fielded multiple comments regarding how much marina residents loved Ranger Tugs. If any other Tug owners are in the area, please let us know.

On a related note, we would appreciate any info on deeper water boat ramps in the Key West area or marinas that could lift our boat out of the water when we depart. We don’t think there will be enough water for an easy loading.

There is a ramp at the Key West city dock. Give them a call you might want to try there. Concrete ramp with docks along side. I seem to remember that a friend of mine was able to pull his R-27 put there. There is also a ramp near stock island at Oceanside Marina. They charge for use. 305-294-4676
 
In Marathon there is a City ramp we’ve used for our prior R27 n our present R29. It’s located next to the Marathom Yacht Club, on the Bay side.

Thanks to all for the info!

In regards to storing the truck and trailer, we are fortunate to have access to Boca Chica Marina located on Naval Air Station Key West. As this is our first time down here with the boat, we thought this would be the easiest.

If you have access to Naval facilities, you can use the ramp at Naval Air Station Key West (Sigsbee).

My buddy (who is in the Navy) and I were out there about 6 weeks ago and it looks like good deep water. If you are military, that is another good place to keep a trailer and truck.

I guess I should have listened to my dad and joined the Navy!

If you stay at Blackfin in Marathon they will let you store you’re truck n trailer there for no additional cost.

I can confirm that the Key West City Marina is suitable to launch your R27 (as I presently live 5 minutes from there). After launching, follow the channel markers to get thru Garrison Bight to Trumbo Point. From there you will want to turn 90 degrees to port (ENE) to follow a narrow channel which will take you under the Fleming Key Cut bridge. Continue in the same direction a short distance past the Coast Guard docks after which you'll see the cruise ships (deep water) on your port side.

I was down there last year in my Cutwater CB30 and decided against Sigsbee. I lived at Sigsbee for a few years and used the ramp for a 26' footer (28" draft). The ramp is probably OK for your Ranger, but take a hard look at the entrance to the Marina. The cut is skinny and the water is skinnier! The rock bottom isn't very forgiving. I used to tilt the motors up; not an option with my CB30; so we passed on using Sigsbee. I would welcome "pushback" from the Tugnuts regarding the the Sigsbee entrance... if so, I'll put Sigsbee in my playbook for the next trip.

We are thinking about loading up the boat in the next few weeks and heading to the Keys.

Any other ideas where to keep the truck and trailer? We will be cruising the Keys, so we don't need to pay the price of staying at a Marina.

Ideas? As an alternative, i'll just start calling storage places. Just wanted to see if anyone as any experience with a particular place.

Thank you for pointing that out! This restriction makes sense.

I guess we will come up with another plan. Our idea is to hunker down on the boat, not go to restaurants, etc. We are pretty self sufficient underway.
