We are planning a trip to Key West FL next May, 2017 and could use any advice/suggestion for the trip. Thought we would launch in Marathon and motor down to Key West. Not sure where to park truck/trailer for several weeks. Any suggestions or recommendations where to stop along the way would be appreciated. Thanks - Bill

We usually when in Key West stay at the Garrison Bight Marina. They offer truck and trailer storage. They have an excellent launch ramp.Bikes are really great to have in Key West. Plenty of nearby food stores we like Publix. Kind of a long walk to Duval Street but if you have bikes not to bad. If you like being in the center of the action A&B Marina is in the heart of Key West. It's about $3.50 per foot. Nice shower facilities and free use of washers and dryers. You really want to try the Commodore Restaurant which is on the wharf near the A&B marina regardless of where you dock the boat for their happy hour. Excellent half price small plates during happy hour. The back way which is via the inter coastal waterway is a beautiful ride either coming on going to Marathon. Watch the weather there are a lot of crab and fish traps to they are easier to see when the water is relatively flat. I would plan to stop at Bahia Honda for a night. Pretty place about 10 miles south of Marathon a very protected lagoon. A long walk to the showers in the RV park section but very secure and there is a coffee shop there along with scuba boats and an ice cream stand. We stay at the Black Fin Marina which is gulf side when in Marathon. They have a ramp where we have pulled our boat and they might be able to let you store your truck and trailer there. You might consider doing a loop from Key West to Marathon and back to Key West. You could come up the inter coastal and return to Key West via Hawk Channel which is ocean side but runs inside the reef and carries about twenty feet of water depth. It's beautiful down there and we will down there for the month of March.

You may want to try Knight Key RV resort in Marathon to store the rig. They are eventually closing down for a new condo complex, but I heard they will still be in business this season and next. I heard they will store a truck and trailer for about $5.00 per day. Scuffy has hit many of the spots to stop on the way down or up from Key West. Stock Island Marina Village isn't a bad place to stay when going to Key West. It is a very nice facility. It is outside of Key West, but they have a shuttle that takes you right downtown on a regular basis and they will also take you to grocery shopping etc. Newfound Harbor a bit east of Key West is a nice stop for an overnight either going or coming. Wind direction and speed or wind may dictate whether you want to go down via Hawk Channel or the Gulf side. The Gulf side can be shallow in spots and your choices for overnight will be more anchoring than marina facilities.
