Lac of Wiper arm tension on glass

On our way back from Gorge Harbour we got to play in some bigger waves. The water was breaking well over the bow and hitting the windows. I have them well coated with Rainex which turned out to be a good thing. When I turned on the wipers they float at least a half inch from the glass! Not an issue the Rainex worked well. Upon inspection the arms are the old style aluminum ones used on cars from the 60's and the spring has no tension left. I'm sure ill have to cut them off with a dremel. Is there a modern replacement? The fix when I was a teen was black springs that you put over the arms to increase pressure on the arm. All I can find online is the blades, I need a new improved whole arm assembly.

Any suggestions?

LOL found all kinds! I guess I need to set my search to more than $20! Still need to remove the old ones...
 
I hit the pivot pin with some CorrosionX spray. The pin corrodes and makes the pivot too stiff for the spring to pull the blade against the glass. Spray the pin and move the blade away from the glass and back a few times to free it up. After a few cycles of spraying and moving the blade it is as free as new.

Ditto what Howard said, salt and corrosion builds up at the pivot points.
 
Yeah, I wish there was a better arm. I have to constantly free them up. And you never realize they need work until you need them!
 
I replaced my aluminum arms with stainless from West Marine. No more problems. Also, you don't need the Dremel. The cover over the base of the arm lifts up exposing a set screw.
 
Which wiper did you get from West Marine and by chance do you know if they are the same size as the R-27?
