Has anyone cruise in northern Onterio on Lake Nipigon?

I have not but after a little research Lake Nipigon looks intriguing. If someone has please, please post a reply and let us know if there are chart books and or navigation aids that were helpful. I would imagine the wild life is, well, pretty wild north of Lake Superior.

Many years ago spent a week on Nipigon. It is truly the North Country. The water is clear and cold. Skeeters the size of B52's. The pike and muskie will scare you. Our daughter who is a strong swimmer and not afraid of Lake Superior, refused to set foot in that water. My son's brand new glasses went overboard. The fishing guide brought his 11 or 12 year old son there and told him to get the glasses. He dove into the 40 some degree water, about 15 feet to the bottom and found the glasses. I gave him $5 ((1970 or so) and their eyes lit up as that was a days wages.

I've been up there a couple of times hunting and fishing but only near shore in alum boats. I've done a bit of looking around online and have seen the articles on the Whaler site about a trip some of them took (only one had fiberglass damage 😉 and another good blog on a paddling site. Garmin has a topo map available of lake and there is a local "map" showing some landmarks. Still looking for some firsthand time spent on the lake camping and exploring. There are a couple of charters up there so worst case I figure and could hire one of them for a few hours to do a little orientation. We're thinking about a trip there to hunt and fish next September. Thanks

King Tug,
If you should be traveling through Grand Marais, MN
on your way to Nipigon, look me up. I can share a few
of my experiences on Lake Nipigon.
