We have just returned from 9 days on Lake Powell. This is the lake behind Glen Canyon Dam that is on the Utah-Arizona border and is administered by the National Park Service. It is wilderness boating in the desert. The main stem of the lake is about 150 miles long but has scores of canyons radiating from the stem; many twisting and narrowing for miles. We traveled over 300 miles, ran for 45 hours, and used 100 gallons of fuel.

Please see our website for photos and our trip journal: http://www.laurieann-ranger25.com
The link to it is immediately on the right of the tugnuts homepage.

It was amazing, incredible was an adventure. Take a look at the Lake Powell, Utah on the website and enjoy!

John and Laurie,

A great report! Everything sounded great except for the billable hours. I need to put Lake Powell on Roam's to-do list.

John and Laurie:

Thanks for sharing, your stories and photo's bring back great memories of our Lake Powell trip. Glad you two, plus cat (who it looks like from the one photo was your mapping navigator) had a wonderful time.

Jim

What a great photo essay! Lake Powell is a "must do" for boaters - a spiritual kinda place. We hope to get back there this fall. Your report is a delightful reminder!

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Thank you for posting! I want to find a way to go there also with Cascadia! It was delightful in the early 90's with kayaks when my son and daughter were in college and your post reminds me to find a way to return🙂

Thanks for the kind words. Lake Powell was a great trip. If you go, be prepared for amazing sights and a few challenges that may discourage the boater whose only tool in their toolbox is "give it more power."

We did not go up the San Juan River or explored the Escalante River past the first few canyons-there are many more miles to see. When we go again, it will probably be in the fall.
