We are looking for a good place to launch for a week or so cruise doing the Carolina Loop. After launching the boat we would want to store the truck and trailer close by for a week or so. Any ideas appreciated.

Don't have a specific spot but, you could contact Atlantic Yacht Basin in Great Bridge, NC and see what they might have to offer or suggest.

Thank you. I found out about a free ramp from a C-brat at the City of Portsmouth Park. The same guy who let me about the ramp has offered free rig storage while we will be out floating around. Doesn't get any better than that.

I'm a newbie - can you tell me what is the Carolina Loop?
Thanks!
Rick

Rick,
Starting from the Norfolk Va. area. You follow the intercostal waterway south thru the Currituck Sound down thru the North River to the Albemarle Sound west to the Pasquotank river and head north up the river to the Dismal Swamp canal back to Norfolk. Easy trip so they say. Three locks in total with a little of everything thrown in so they say. You can Google it. It's a well marked 110 mile loop. Nice people great restaurants rivers bridges, and so much wildlife. We wanted to do a short cruise before the end of our boating season and before we trailer the boat to Florida. First time for me but everyone speaks well of it. I wanted to wait until things cooled off a little.

Thanks for the response, I will research this, it certainly sounds like one that I need to add to my "To Do" list. Would appreciate a trip report when you complete it.
Thanks Again,
Rick

We are leaving Pa. on the evening of Oct.2nd to trailer the boat to Portsmouth Virginia. Will launch on in Portsmouth Oct.3rd. Get cruising on Oct 4th. I'll try to post here daily and post some pictures in my album. I'm thinking we will head down to the Dismal swamp canal first and then to the river and the Albemarle sound then east and up the inter coastal. The sound can get rough as it is kind of shallow. prevailing winds usually west in the summer north in the winter. I would rather a following or a beam sea rather than bucking the wind and the waves.

Dave enjoy that trip, we want to do it one of these days. Are you storing boat in Florida, hope you fit in a keys trip while down there?

Larry,
We will trailer the boat to the Florida Keys (Marathon) in late February and stay a little over a month and then trailer it back home. If all the planets line up we will then pack for the northwest trip. I'm not fond of leaving the boat anywhere too far from home.

Very nice a month in the keys sounds great. Must say you are fitting in a lot of trips already with your new boat. The Pacific Northwest also sounds excellent. I enjoyed Marathon the few times we were there, now we wont have to rent a boat . We had a great time fishing ,chummed and used live shrimp, caught variety of fish, snappers ,groupers, Spanish mackerl yellow tail ect. Also fished from Marathon Lady, and chartered boat called Bait Runner ,nice King Mackeral and other fish. Herbies was great place to eat.
