My brother-in-law and I are talking about taking our boats, he has a 28 foot Bayliner, up to Lewiston, Id and starting down the Snake River and then down the Columbia River to Portland, OR where we noramlly keep our boats. I was wondering if anyone in the Lewiston area has any suggestions on where the best place to plan to launch our boats and leave our tow vehicles and trailers while we are on the river might be? We hope to make the trip in August if we can get everything worked out. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I live in Lewiston Id, and can certainly help you out.
There are several excellent Launch ramps and a couple of nice marinas ( one with an indoor pool) that you can keep your boats at while you prepare for the down river run. I can help you make arraingements for trailer storage either at HellsGate marina (locked) or on the property of some friends (free). While you're here I can also arrainge for you to meet a few folks that have made the same trip .. for some last minute tips.
There is a new website dedicated to Snake River boating that has just been set up by a member of the sailing club I belong to, here's the link http://snake.seareport.net/ It's just started but there is already some good info on it.
If you like we can e-mail direct, or on this site... let me know.

We can only dream about making such a trip (no trailer, boat moored in tidal saltwater). But it is wonderful to see how readily this connection was made. Awesome. Tugnuts - helping make plans and keeping dreams alive.

Cheers

SlackwaterJack, Thank you for your response. I would be very interested in hearing from you by email if you would like. My email address is jfturner3@juno.com. Thanks again, John Turner

We plan to make this trip this summer too. We are still working on the logistics of getting our Escalade and trailer back to McMinnville from Lewiston.
