Hi All-

I have a 2016 Cutwater C26 - have a windlass issue..It's a Pro series Lewmar- it decided not to reel in the line or chain anymore (but lets out fine). The gear spins..and the clutch nut is hand tight- anyone have this problem before? Do I need to use the wrench on it to force it tighter or something? The teeth on the gypsy wheel are fine, they grab the rope and chain without problems..Thanks in advance

It sounds like you need to tighten the clutch. My boat came with a wrench specifically to do this. Not knowing how, I had a boat yard do it when it was in for service although I believe it's pretty easy, trial and error tighten until it lifts the anchor easily but if hung up you down't want it to pull the bow down too much or frig up the windlass.

Thanks- you were correct- I used the wrench on the clutch nut (handwheel thing)..it turned and I made it snug- pulled up like a champ!

you can also use a 1/2" drive ratchet handle or breaker bar to tighten. It slips perfectly into the slot.

We also use a ratchet. It also fits the axle on the opposite side for manual lifting -- although it takes a bit of effort because it not only lifts the anchor but also drives the winch. However, the electrical retrieve is so fast that i end up bouncing the anchor pretty good. So the last foot or so is done by hand.
