I did a search for this and I'm sure it has been discussed. What are the typical towed weight of both the R27 and R29? My truck, 2012 Ford F250 diesel 4x4 is rated to tow 14000 lbs on the class V hitch. I can find the factory dry weights and trailer weights but I am sure the loaded weights exceed this by a large margin.
Thanks,

It might be good to check the sticker on the hitch itself to determine the weight carrying and weight distributing capacity of the factory hitch itself, rather than the capacity of the engine/transmission combo.

The picture above was from the factory hitch on our F250 diesel 4x4, which we ended up replacing with an after-market hitch that would carry 10,000 lbs on conventional weight carrrying hitch.

Last time I weighed the R27 classic and Float-on 1231 ABB dual axle trailer, it was 10,000 lbs on a CAT scale at a truck stop.

Good luck!

I cannot imagine the R27 exceeding 14,000. Can you break your numbers down. I think dry weight of a R27 is just over 7,000. then add fuel, water and person effects. Might get to 10,000 if full fuel and water. then the trailer.

Our R27, we sold 2 years ago, had a weight (including trailer) if 10,550 lbs. our R29S with trailer, dinghy comes in at roughly 12,600 lbs. I do not have a breakdown.

Thanks for the quick responses! Crewdog, good heads up on the factory hitch. Mine is a little better but still inadequate, rated at 8500 weight carrying and 17500 with a weight distributing. I remembered the 17500 number from when we bought out travel trailer, which uses a weight distributing hitch. Looks like the truck doesn't have to be the deciding factor between an R27 and an R29.

Can't emphasis enough to get the fully loaded weights of YOUR trailer/boat separate from the truck, then hitched together and weighed. Don't guess. It will be a surprise and enlightening. From those numbers, a clear decision can be made. Without the facts, it's a guess, be safe and keep your speed around 55 mph. If you're in a hurry take a jet plane 😱
