Living in north Texas has its boating challenges. Being new members of the Ranger family our current struggle is locating a good dinghy for sale. We had planned to order a Livingston LV8, but they no longer make this 8' model. The LV9 is as small as they go. Does anyone have (or know someone who has) a used Livingston LV8 or Portland pudgy for sale? We're certainly agreeable to paying freight costs. Are there other models you recommend we investigate?

Our plan is to take our R25SC to the Florida Keys this winter and do a lot of snorkeling from the dinghy. We are looking for a sturdy hard-bottom dinghy. Tugnuts - Your collective help would be appreciated. Feel free to call us direct - 903.931.3903 or send an email to kkdohrer@hotmail.com

If you're interested in obtaining a used Portland Pudgy one approach might be to scan eBay or contact Portland Pudgy's office at 207.761.2428 and talk with Deb Paley or David Hulbert (http://www.portlandpudgy.com) about a used Pudgy. You never know if the factory has something that could meet your budget. They will also have 'sales' that can lower the entry price by several 100s of dollars.

When I bought my Pudgy from the factory in Portland/Maine the shipping cost was $423 to Edmonds, WA. The ABF Freight System Inc., (http://www.abf.com/rteguide/stations.asp?SA=SEA)was the shipping agent. It came wrapped in a double soft bag and was delivered directly to my marina, and the driver even helped me wheel it down to our boat.

Another avenue might to peruse Craigslist. My quick search turned up this http://seattle.craigslist.org/kit/boa/4049000637.html. This R-25 has a white Portland Pudgy and who knows, the seller may be interested in your proposal. This Pudgy also has the Sailing Kit as well as a 2HP Honda outboard to go with it. 🙂 This listing was posted Sep 5th so you might act quickly as I'm sure this R-25 will be a hot seller as it's loaded and very clean from looking at the photos.

Good luck... The Portland Pudgy is an awesome dinghy and will last for ever. 🙂

There is a Portland Pudgy listed for sale on this site. Check out Ranger Tugs For Sale by Owner section.

After posting the request for a used dinghy I read the other thread that was referenced regarding the used Portland pudgy. I appreciate the info. Luck was on our side and a Google search turned up a new (well, at least not used) Livingston LV8 in Florida - which we have agreed to purchase.

Now, we need to obtain the Weaver davits. It is my understanding that for the Livingston dinghies the "2in up and 4in out" davits are the correct choice. Can anyone confirm that? And, do you know of an online source?

Thanks again.
