Hi, We have a 2016 R25, The boat has 300 hours on it. Yesterday we were returning from a cruise doing 1800 RPM.....
Suddenly there was a noise out back and the boat immediatly lost momentum. We did not hit anything, and the prop was fine.
The boat engine was running fine and all motor indicators were normal. The boat would shift into reverse and reverse seemed to function normally.
Shifting into forward however produced nothing.
Any thoughts??
Thanks!

There have a number of transmissions (reverse gear) failures in the RT25SC. However, I would first check the connections to the shifting solenoids on the gear. They are at the rear the reverse gear on the starboard and port side and have a cable connection. The solenoid that provides shifting into forward in on the port side. I would remove the cable connection and inspect it for both corrosion and/or a broken wire. You can try application of CRC on the connections to see if that helps. If all looks good and still will not shift into forward, you can try swapping the cables on the solenoids. Then shift into reverse and see if the gear shifts into forward. If it shifts into forward your solenoid is good, however there is a problem with the connection. If it does not shift into forward you can try swapping the solenoids and see if that helps. If you are still have a problem shifting into forward you may have a clutch failute inside the gear. This is a common failure on the RT25SCs and will probably require a new reverse gear.

If you find you need a new reverse gear, unless it is covered by a warrenty, I would suggest purchasing from ZF instead of Volvo Penta, you will save $$. You can search this site for other reverse gear failures to help with additional information. If you need help send me a PM and I will be glad to help.

Good luck... Dick
