Hi,
We got a low-coolant warning on our R25SC with the Volvo D3-150. The manual specifies only Volvo yellow coolant and warns against mixing coolant types, but only the pink 50/50 E/L coolant is available at the marina where we are right now. Will it be okay to add the pink coolant?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Volvo antifreeze is very expensive. Maybe $28 to $53 dollars US a gallon depending on where you shop! I would abide by what the manual says. I would always keep a gallon of the recommended Volvo coolant in reserve on the boat like extra oil etc. Especially is you are in the warranty period if you know what I'm saying.

The Volvo tech who did my delivery inspection told me that the coolant sensor on the D3 is extraordinarily sensitive, ie., it only takes a very small decrease in the coolant level to set off the alarm. His point was that I should not get too concerned, nor should I rush to add coolant, every time the alarm goes off. He told me that he gets a couple of calls a week about this. Obviously, one should check the level visually (shine a light into the fill hole) to be sure it's not a catastrophic drop, but when my alarm went off, all it took was an ounce or two for it to reset.

Cooool huh!
