Maiden Voyage

So this Saturday morning will be our first solo voyage with the new boat. The towing trip from Florida achieved, titleing, registration and several repairs completed. After filling with Diesel and pumping out the holding tank, we will begin the journey. Needless to say there is much excitement and a dose of anxiety. The trip to our permanent slip is challenging. From South Amboy, NJ we will cross the Raritan Bay through lower NY Bay, under the Verrazano Bridge a few circles around the Statue of Liberty, up the East River, under the Brooklyn Bridge, along Manhattan through the daunting Hell’s Gate, past to the north of Rikers Island and turn into Flushing Bay, parking her at our new slip at the Worlds Fair Marina, which lies between LaGuardia Airport and Citi Field. I keep telling my wife, we’ve done the trip around Manhattan before, in a much smaller boat.

One question on starting the boat from the Engine Battery, once started do you switch to House and turn Engine Off and leave like that while underway?

All battery switches— thruster, house, engine— should be ON for the entire trip from dock to dock.

Also, make sure the House and Engine cross connect switch (labeled Battery Parallel, between the House and Engine switches in the round access in the cockpit, Owners Manual p.22) is Off. You should keep the battery banks isolated from each other unless cross-connecting them is necessary to start the engine.

Very cool and bon voyage! I have the same model and it's a great boat! You'll love the vis and handling. I modeled your trip on my Navionics app (you know, instead of getting work done at the office). Looks like it'll be a few hours and about 30 galloons. I'm in Southern California, which is a completely different boating environment...

Although you can’t swim in the immediate vicinity, we gave great access. North West over Manhattan and we’re in the Hudson River to head up to West Point, Quebec or the Great Loop, are on our list of trips, head east and we’re in the LI Sound. Head south west, under the Verrazano and we’re in the Atlantic. So we’ve got plenty to explore!

I would think of the switches more independently. You are not switching from engine to house. The engine battery is either turned on by the switch or off. Same for house. You either want house plugs and switches on or you want them off. As stated you would want them on for the whole trip. The time they are turned off is most often for storage or when not being used for a period of time.
