These folks and their dog died onboard their boat in their slip. Carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning is suspected. And if you don’t think this can happen to you because of our diesel engines, know that CO can come from a source other than your vessel. A couple years ago, Rich and Cheryl Odendahl returned from dinner to the sound of their R25’s CO detector alarms. The CO source was the exhaust from the on-board generator of the boat slipped next to them.

Sad situation indeed. I never leave our diesel heater going while asleep and keep everything shut down. I also look to make sure no one is running CO producing item near me. I also installed a CO detector in the V-berth above my head. You can never be too cautious when it comes to CO.
