Volvo Penta sells a "service kit" for their diesels, mine being a D3-150iG. The kit sells $226.11, part 21759184
I called to ask what was included and couldn't get an answer!? Does anybody know what items are included in this kit?(http://www.volvopentastore.com/Repair-K ... .625254647)
Thanks!

I can't answer your question, but it seems based on my research this "service kit" weighs in at 1,086 kg. That's big and in English measure that's equal to one ton or 2400 lbs.

It will be of interest to know what's included in this kit given its weight. 😱

I also noticed Volvo sells a "corrugated paper box" for $19.60....sounds like a deal, but they are "out of stock"

Baz & snydzy-

The one-ton service kit might explain the need for a $19.60 cardboard box and also its unavailability.

From V-P's own website: "We are unable to provide technical support via email or over the phone". Good luck

Hi folks: I have a sense of 'humour' coming on here, so forgive me if it is misplaced. By the looks of the weight (1,086kg) I would suggest it really is '1 (decimal) 086 kg' (1.086kg). The comma is actually a decimal point (in the System Internationale protocols), which is the original true metric measurement, therefore the corrugated cardboard box may in fact be suitable after all! Otherwise, a bloody big service kit. KInd regards to all, from the Great Southern Land.

For those of you following Stevan's logic that puts the weight at 2.39lbs. which puts the value per pound at $94.61/lb.

I am glad I have a Yanmar 3YM20 as there are a lot of aftermarket service parts that fit.

I sense there is a lot of "Yanmar Pride"..... I have no complaints about my Volvo,... It's been flawless ! Why did Ranger Tugs switch to the Volvo Penta? Was it about cost?..... Was it about availability? ... Or...Was it about performance?

None of those things IMO.....business relationships could be a factor. 😱

Speaking recently with one of the sales people for ranger tugs in my area I asked the same question, "why the switch to Volvo?" They said that fluid motion Inc wanted yanmar to make some small changes to the engines like relocate the oil dipstick and yanmar said no. Volvo said no problem and what else would you like.

I don't know, there are two dip sticks and they are probably the easiest thing to access on the engine. I heard that the oil line rupture was the big issue that caused the parting of ways. I heard that Yanmar stuck Ranger with the cost of the repair. Then again that is all hearsay, but it makes more sense to me than a relocated dip stick.

I thought the yanmar was made by bmw and then marinated by yanmar. That would explain why they could not make the change without passing that request to bmw

Hi 'Knotflying': That is news to me. I would never have realsied that the Yanmar is in fact a BMW hybrid. Good pedigree though. Whatever next! Regards

The Yanmar in our former R-29 was the same engine used in BMW's X5 Diesel. One pulled up next to us in a ferry queue one day and it sounded just like our boat.

Cheers

.. are ALL Yanmars based on a BMW engine or just the engines bigger than the 3 cylinder models ??

As a matter of fact if one was to look at the oil filter on their first change it is a BMW part number stamped on it. The 6BY is a M57 X3 3.0 and the 4BY is a M47bX3 2.0

I wonder if the filters are cheaper at Pep Boys?
