My new R25 came with a Majestic TV and antennae. It's great.. At home on the trailer (near Portland Or.) we get 20 or so stations including the local ABC,NBC,CBS,PBS affiliates. At the marina near the Ranger HQ all we get is home shopping and Spanish televangelists! I'm not against those choices, but all I want is to watch the local news/weather.
My buddy with a charter dive boat 3 slips down gets the works.
Thoughts? Ideas? Spanish lessons?
Steve
BTW, I sent a "ask the tech" message to Majestic. The CEO (no kidding) emailed me back within 5 minutes with some ideas to try out when we are again up north. Great customer service! Almost as good as Ranger Tugs!

When you say "Ranger HQ", where exactly is that geographically ?

Let's see now, Battle Ground, WA is a few miles north of Vancouver, WA, right ?

I'm in the same boat so to speak and am only interested in local TV channels. My boating area would be the PNW Puget Sound area and would hope in this area the TV antenna would be good enough to pickup local TV channels.

Hola Sr. Steve

Could you share the ideas that came from Majestic?

TV reception is hit and miss depending on where you are docked. When we've been to Portland we like you received excellent reception. When docked downtown Seattle our experience was the same, just when we thought we'd have great reception we had as you described. Not knowing what reception we would get on any given day as we moved we reverted to a wifi router to not only get internet for our computers but we also used it to obtain tv reception for the major channels. Of course in this case we would have to be able to receive an internet signal. No perfect answer except maybe an expensive TV dome and tv provider monthly subscription.

I have a travel trailer as well as now having a Ranger. Before the Ranger I had a simple tv with $9 rabbit ear antenna on my previous Bayliner 265.

In my opinion, free over the air tv reception has nothing to do with the antenna manufacturer, you are completely at the mercy of terrain. With my travel trailer in front of my home, I got many digital channels. When I'm up in Birch Bay, I only get 7, and 5 of them are Canadian.

For the boat, with rabbit ears in Poulsbo, I got several channels - when in Everett, at my slip, nothing - keep in mind now I am under a covered slip and on the East side of the bottom of a cliff.

With the Ranger and the same antenna setup you have, I am getting the same free over the air tv reception - several channels in Poulsbo, nothing in Everett.

Thanks gang! This Tugnuts thing is great!
BAZ, by Ranger HQ I mean the factory in Kent just up the road from the Des Moines Marina where we had the boat for a few days.
Chimo, here is Majestic's response.

"Hi Steve,

Thanks for your reply, our whole team prides itself on making sure our customers are super happy with the product so support is pretty critical

Couple of things to try.

Unplug the shore power and turn off everything except the TV and Antenna power.
I want to see if there is something causing interference.
Try the boat just outside the marina – 300 or 500 yards.
I want to see if the slip has some electrical noise cauing the issue.
I also want to see if you get more channels than before (even if it is only one or two)

In both of the above – just push the SCAN button when you set up properly and see what the TV tunes into.

If it works fine on either of these then we know it’s not the TV (as I suspect it won’t be as it works fine at home).

The difference between the other boat and yours may also be that the Antenna is too sensitive and therefore the strong signal is be swamped and the Tuner won’t pick it up – but the outside the marina test should give us more information on this, especially if there is a difference in the amount of channels tuned.

Look forward to hearing from you so we can get this solved for you.

Regards.
