I have a question for this group regarding the striped factory marine carpet. Mine seems to have taken on a strong smell of dill pickles. I brought it home and thoroughly shampooed both sides twice. After it dried the smell came back. A little weaker, but still strong. Almost smells like the rubber backing is wearing down and creating the smell, but I'm not sure either. Both the indoor and outdoor (cockpit) carpets have the same smell. I spray some Fabreze when I get on the boat and it seems to overcome the smell for that day. But only temporarily, as the next trip when I unlock the interior the smell is prominent again.

This is almost like the Seinfeld episode when "the smell" from the parking attendant's B.O. Wouldn't leave his BMW. "It's Alive"!!!

Has anyone else experienced a similar carpet smell that is difficult to eliminate? Any ideas on the source of the smell and possible ways to eliminate it? Any possible successes to share?

Thanks for your help.

Mike-

Call Debra at 503-786-3170 x 500.

Corinthian Marine makes the carpet for Ranger. They have a plant by the OLCC in Milwaukie and another plant in Georgia. I'm sure she can help you out. Perhaps you could take the carpet there at lunch time and they can add the pickles to their sandwiches and leave you with a carpet that smells like mayo and moldy bread.

By they way it's called "teak and holly" carpet with extra pickle.

Thanks for the advice, David. Love the humor too. Thanks for the laugh and good advice!
