Marine head use

This is a question of usage and personal preference but I’d like to get a sense of what other boaters are doing. I was taught many years ago to NEVER, EVER, EVER flush TP down the head into the holding tank. It didn’t matter if you were using rapid dissolve TP or not. You just didn’t flush it. I’ve continued that practice and have never had any issues with a blockage or pump out but now other crew members are questioning about the need to continue this practice. Comments?

Our rapid disposal TP goes down the head. We have a Dometic electric head with built in macerator so the TP is well ground before getting to the black water tank. Not been an issue for us.
That said, nothing goes into the head except bio-waste and rapid disposal TP.

We use regular TP and have never had an issue. Tecma marine toilet on 2012 R29.

I can’t imagine putting TP anywhere but in the head! Perhaps that was a limitation of marine heads in days gone by, but I’m glad it is no longer the case!

We have a Raritan toilet with built in macerator that grinds it up pretty fine and have never had a problem with the toilet paper. The manual clearly states “No special toilet paper is required.”

We have lived on our R-31CB for 3 years (love it!). Our toilet is also one with a macerator. We have always put tp in the head (and, beyond the normal biological functions, nothing else!) and we’ve never had a problem. We did the “jar of water shake test” to find a cheap readily available brand that would disintegrate easily and settled on MD. But I suspect that there are other non-marine brands that would probably be fine.

Use Scott TP and you won't have an issue. Remember to use some sort of tablets for marine heads to help with breakdown and smell.

We have the Raritan with the macerator in it. TP goes in it all the time and no problems yet unless your batteries are drained 😱

Strongly agree about using Scott TP. Have had occasional problems with others.
