Hello, Fellow Tugnuts,

The local MASE generator technician just completed the 150 hour service.

He said he could not get the oil filter removed to replace it. He handed me the unopened oil filter cartridge and the bill.

Has anyone had problems getting the oil filter changed in the MASE 2.5?

I never tried to change mine after my buddy told me about the experience changing his.
He said the oil filter is IMPOSSIBLE to get to, to remove.
It is even harder to get it back in.
Furthermore, it is not an oil filter, it is only a chip screen, which you rinse with solvent.
There was nothing in it.
So he did all that work for nothing.
He said he would never do it again.

This series of postings and others about the greater complexities of the larger/longer Ranger Tugs makes me appreciative of being a 21-EC owner. I've had a few frustrations with some of its "systems" but what a great little boat!

The oil strainer and oil drain plug are both mostly inassessable on the R25. Larger boats with better access would allow access. Since most boats this small do not have a built-in genset I guess we have to live with the compromise. I considered the lack of other locations and decided we don't have much choice. This is one more reason to consider a portable genset rather than a factory installed model (besides cost). I still like not having to carry gaasoline
