I have a 2008 R25 with a Mase 2.5 KW factory Generator.
The Generator has only 5 hours on the unit.
Last time i ran the generator it stoped running after app 20 minutes of running and there was an error message on the screen. E 80 I believe.
I have the R25 in drydock getting its annual service and asked them to check the unit and they checked the impeller and the unit was faulty, impeller vanes were destroy. The Impeller as replaced but it dose not pull water out of the ocean and the unit overheats and stops running. The mechanics checked the pump and it pump picks up water out of a bucket of water but not out of the sea. Meaning they run the pick up hose into a bucket of water and it picks up the water just fine. But again the impellar pump will not pick up sufficant sea water.
Makes Sense???probable not but any thoughts would be appreciated.

P.S. excuse the spelling.

I had a similar problem on our last boat. After a lot of wrangling around I found parts of the impeller lodged down stream of the pump. The restriction was not enough to be a problem when cooling water demand was low. However, when running at higher rpm the restriction did not allow a higher flow of water for cooling. Not sure if that is your problem but you can check it out. I used a small hooked wire that I could push up and down the tube. Not familiar with our generator yet so good luck. Let us know what you find.

In addition to Al's comments I'll add that the hull pickup up to the sea strainer inlet hose could be blocked. This has happened to me a couple of times over the years. Here is what I did.....get a water hose and attach a high pressure nossel. Next turn the thru hull lever to the sea strainer into the closed position. Then take the incoming hose to the sea strainer off just at the sea strainer, not the thru hull. Look into the open end of the hose and you may find your clog. Try and pick or pull anything out that you can. Next open the seacock thru hull and if water flows freely you are good to go, If not then put the nosseled end of the water hose into the opened end of the hose coming from the seacock. Turn the seacock into the open position and apply water pressure into the hose a couple of times to force the obstruction out from where it came and then close the thru hull. With the water hose set aside reopen seacock to see if water flows freely. If not retry above and if so reconnect everything. This may not be your problem but if it is this is how I've cleared up my similar problem in the past.

Hi Jerry,

I would have to agree and say that it sounds like a blockage in the pick-up or one of the hoses. I would inspect the thru-hull pick-up and valve, along with the hoses, to make sure that there isn't anything restricting flow to the impeller housing.
