Mase generator error code 83

Hello, I own a 2012 C28 with an intermittent error code 83 showing up on the Mase generator after 20 minutes of use- with the generator shutting down and no longer working. This has occurred since I purchased the boat 2 years ago. My local Mase mechanic was perplexed by the alternator overheating which he witnessed and verified by temperature gun. (Last year he replaced the impeller).
He spoke with Mase today and was told that the only remedy requires removing the generator to repair this. I realize that a new portable generator would be cheaper....
Any thoughts or advise?
What about warranties from Cutwater or Mase?
Any input would be welcome- we like to cook and need our oven and stove.

Hello,

The warranty on the Mase is 2 years or 2000 hours. I looked in the manual and an E-83 code is a high temp alternator but I"m surprised the alternator can't just be replaced if that's the case. I would imagine that's cheaper than a portable gen.

What were you running when the error occurred? Was the case tightly sealed and the fan turning freely?

It may be the 100 microfarad capacitor located on the left front as you face the generator from the stern.

Careful of portables, I used one briefly while waiting for a part, tripped my carbon monoxide detector.
