Just removed the generator on my 2008 R25, mostly because I couldn't stand the list. Although I used it frequently, it was only for charging the battery. The only other use for it would have been for the A/C while running - something I never have done nor wanted to do. So out it came. Instead, I am using a Honda 1000 which supplies plenty of power for the battery charger, but definately not enough for the water heater too. The 1000 is significantly smaller and lighter than the 2000. Since I now have gasoline on board for my dinghy, I don't have the added burden of storing gas - something I'm not sure I would have wanted to do just for the Honda genset.
It wasn't as difficult to remove as I had expected. Most difficult was getting it out of the hole and off the boat (which I did while the boat was on the trailer). I removed the screws holding the wood platform to the boat since the bolts holding the genset to the platform were not accessable. Then after removing all the connections (I had already put a valve in the fuel line), it came out of the hole easily........that is with a block and tackle. I happen to have just the right height and strength of a tree limb and enough manuevering room around the tree that allowed me to rent a chain block and tackle of the correct length. Once the boat was positioned correctly, it came out easily. I guess the whole block and tackle thing was the key to making it easy, otherwise I might not have been able to do it. The specs say that it weighs 175lbs so maybe a couple guys younger than I could have lifted it out, but I wasn't going to try it. You can rent material lifts that would have worked also had I had a concrete floor to move it around on rather than my gravel driveway.
Now I have a large storage area that holds the Honda and a lot more and........no list (mostly).
Let me know if you have other questions.
