I have been running my generator for about a half hour with air conditioning, outlets and battery charger. Water following out the exhaust. Then I turned on the hot water heater and the generator shut down with E-82 code.

Did I overload the generator thus causing the overheat with engine?

Barry:

That would be my guess. I find on our Mase 2.7 I can run the air/heat and make a pot of coffee and all is fine but if I add the hot water heater or a toaster things go wrong. On the other hand if I turn the air/heat off I can operate the coffee pot and hot water heater and have no problem. Basically it comes down to electric management. If you overload the Genset too much you could burn the internal genset fuses, which causes a repair/replacement of fuses and or fuse holder....this has happened to me just this past spring. Good luck.

Thanks Jim. I let it cool down overnight. Changed oil thus morning. Generator is running with just AC. Water is coming out the exhaust port. I will keep my fingers crossed.

You overloaded the generator by a large margin when you turned on the water heater. Contrary to what many think this is NOT a 2.7KW genset. The 2.7 is just a model number. The actual rating is 1.9KW with a peak of 2.2KW. The IS 2.5 used in earlier tugs has exactly the same rating. I do not see a duration listed in the specs but the peak rating is typically for a 30 minute duration.
The 16K BTU condenser unit, evaporator fan, and raw water pump combined can draw about 15A in cool mode. Assuming a power factor of 1 (not likely) this is about 1.7KW. The water heater has a 1.5KW heating element. The battery charger power requirement will depend on how much current it is delivering.
