R25 kmh4a I think. I changed tranny oil but do you screw in the dip stick or just insert it without screwing it in to measure the proper level of oil? So close seems like not that critical a difference. Also very difficult to see the level since it is so clear.

Hey Jimbeam,

Yes you want to check the fluid with the dipstick just inserted and not screwed in, also be sure to run the engine and shift in/out of gear before topping off the fluid to the full mark. Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Jim, my manual says to put the dipstick in without screwing it down. I’ve always screwed it in then undone it to check. As far as seeing the fluid on the dipstick I saw Tim Bates, from Ranger Tugs, show me how he does it with more certainty. Have a clean rag, paper towel, etc at the ready and when you pull the dipstick out roll it onto your rag but hold the dipstick in place after the roll to be able to see the oil deposit onto the rag vs the low/high markings on the dipstick.
