We just upgraded our vintage 2008 Clarion stereo unit from a CMD5 to a brand new old stock CMD6. Main reason was to get a USB connection to connect to the music on our iPhones. While doing the install (really easy - 30 minutes) I noticed that there was no antenna lead plugged into the CMD5 stereo's antenna connector. Looked and looked but no antenna lead. That is probably why our FM reception was so bad in the Gulf Islands last year.
While I could use our Shakepeare VHF antenna with a band splitter and run coax from the helm area to the port side glove box area that seems like a lot or work!
Thinking about installing a Shakespeare 4353 glass mount AM/FM antenna on the far port side windshield.

Has anyone else out there used one of these?
Is our boat the only one that didn't have an antenna lead to the stereo unit?

Hi Al,

Our boat has a fusion stereo which had the antenna wire just coiled up in back. Kenny Marrs suggested hooking it to the metal window frame. We did that and have much better reception now.

Thanks Curt! I may give that a try. Will still need to get an antenna lead that will fit into the CMD6's Motorola type antenna connector.
