Looking for some advice on mounting a Grarmin18" HD Radar to my R25. I am assuming I need some sort of plate to extend the existing stainless steel shelf on the mast as it does not appear be to large enough. Is a piece of Star Board (1/2 in thick) the way to go? The other item I would like tips on is running of the cables. I have no other Ranger Tugs in my area to look at so will really appreciate any and all suggestions.

Maybe you can zoom in on a few pictures? Go to the albums section. That plate is pretty small on mine (R27). The wires are in a split tube things, but appear to just go thru the top and have a sealer in the hole. If you PM me an email address, I can shoot some pictures of mine and send them to you.

As an update to installing my new Garmin radar and search light to the mast on Lil Toot I'll describe my progress. I made templates from 1/8" pressed board for extensions to the two shelves and then had a local marine store who has a shop, cut out the pieces from 1/2"star board. Next step which I in process of doing is mounting the star board pieces to the stainless steel mounting shelves. I had read that drilling the stainless could be an issue, especially the drill bit wandering, so I clamped the starboard to the stainless and then used cobalt drill bits to drill through the star board and then the hole in the star board served as guide for the drill bit. I also used air tool oil as a lubricant as I had no cutting oil. This system worked out great, no drill bit wandering! The starboard was then fastened with 5/16" stainless steel bolts to the stainless shelves.

I am still looking for tips on how to run the wiring to the helm area.I searched old post and found references to "dropping the ceiling" and running wiring down the wooden chase behind the sink area. Would love to have some info and tips from anybody who has done this.

Thanks in advance
