I really love using the forward berth table as a standing desk (relatedly, I am 5’7”). I also love sleeping on the boat.

For quick conversion between desk and bed I mounted a folding monitor stand, with a lightweight monitor, to the forward strip of teak between the two ceiling panels (photos). Total weight is 15 lbs. It’s awesome, and I’d like to make it permanent, but for now I’m using existing holes and screws and haven’t taken the boat out. Two questions:

-Can the ceiling teak and what’s behind it hold 15lbs? What screw length would you recommend if so?

-What would be the best way to route power and signal cables to the monitor? Can I run them from the coffee bar into the ceiling and out through the teak?

Hi there,

I would not attach anything approaching 15 lbs to the ceiling, whether the teak or otherwise. Also, unfortunately the deck is essentially solid, so there is no way to run any cable that way. I would recommend running the cable under the vberth mattress from the hanging locker (coffee bar) forward and then up to the monitor with some sheathing to make it look a little better. Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Ralf
